*FREE* Outdoor Toddler Activities in Breckenridge, Colorado

Surviving toddlerhood has required daily outings for the tiny human and myself. I’ll admit started out heading outside with my tiny human for the photos and pats on the back…but I kept doing it when it was hard because our daily outings helped keep both of us sane and happy humans. We live in Breckenridge, Colorado and here are a few of our go-to outings…

All activities have been “toddler approved” by a ~2 year old with rocks in her pockets…

Visit the iconic Isak...

…even if you’re a local, go see Isaak the “Breckenridge Troll” sculpture. It is a short 0.25 mile hike from the parking lot and going before ~10am will likely result in a nearly empty trail.

Listen to the train approach...

…at the High Line Railroad Park. Kids can get close to parked trains and push a button to hear it approach. We listened ~5 times in one trip.

Take a hike...

…on literally any dirt ribbon! There are a lot of trails near town but you can simply take the dirt trail along the river and a toddler will be amazed by the grasses and wildflowers.

Visit a playground...

…and let them explore and climb. I would recommend bringing yourself snacks and a coffee if you’re bored by playgrounds like I am! River Park, High Line Park, and Turf Field are all great options with free parking.

Roam the River Walk pathway...

…and stop near the Visitors Center to play in the sand or venture down to the river to toss rocks. Again, bring yourself coffee!

Play near the Blue River...

…toss rocks, discover that sticks float, climb on rocks. When the runoff doesn’t have the river raging there are many access points throughout Breckenridge and near River Park.

Check local event calendars...

…or follow the crowds. We stumbled upon this Mid Summer Circus show at the Summit County Library in Breckenridge. Many organizations have a rotation of kid-friendly events.

More often than not we end up “playing tourist” in our own town when we venture out. It took me a while to get comfortable with this mentality but watching my daughter gawk with wonder at things I used to overlook my perspective changed. The simplest things can keep her happy…like collecting rocks or smelling flowers. Luckily Breckenridge has a lot of rocks and flowers…among many other great distractions for the toddler.
